Stream transcoding creates an Adaptive Bitrate (ABR) stream, offering viewers an enhanced dynamic experience for maximum stability and accessibility.
Multiple versions of the broadcast are created and encoded to fit a variety of network conditions. The video player selects the highest-quality broadcast that the device can play with the smallest amount of buffering possible for smooth playback to viewers around the world, regardless of their device or Internet speed.

Cost & Usage Billing
Stream Transcoding is billed by the hour. Cloud Video Plans include a set number of Transcoding Hours each month. You’ll get email alerts at 75% and 100% usage. Once the limit is reached your channel may be automatically stopped or charged additionally depending on your plan. Check your plan details or contact our sales team for more info on billing.
24×7 Channels (Fallback and TV Channels)
TV Channels and Live Channels with a Fallback Video broadcast 24×7 and will quickly utilize transcoding hours. Our sales team can help change your account to per-channel pricing instead of per-hour pricing.
Encoder Requirements
Our Stream Transcoding technology will adapt automatically to the format of the broadcast received from your encoder to provide the best experience.
- Encoder bit-rate of up to 10 Mbps H.264
- Video – Resolution up to 1080p is supported
- Audio – AAC 192 Kbps 48Khz is recommended with 2 or more channels
The audio stream will be passed through without re-encoding if provided in the above format or higher quality.
Dashboard
Transcoder hours are displayed on the Cloud Video Dashboard for quick and easy overview of accurate usage information.
Checking Usage
Detailed usage reports are available through a dedicated interface under your profile dropdown -> Transcoder Usage.
Reports can be generated by date range and exported to CSV for download.
Activating Stream Transcoding
Stream Transcoding can be enabled on each Channel through the Channel Configuration dialog,
Before activating, the Channel must first be stopped.
- Navigate to the Channel where you wish to enable Stream Transcoding
- Turn the Channel Off
- Click on the Configuration icon next to the channel name
- Ensure the Stream Transcoding option is checked
- Turn the Channel On
