System Requirements

Last updated 2 months ago

The MediaCP is software that must be installed on your own dedicated or virtual server which can be purchased from a provider such as VultrOVH or Amazon.

Operating System

MediaCP recommends Debian 12 for all new installations. x86-64 architecture is required.

The full list of supported operating systems:

  • Debian 11 & Debian 12
  • Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04
  • CentOS 9 Stream*
  • AlmaLinux 8 & AlmaLinux 9*

Flussonic Server is best with Debian or Ubuntu. Flussonic does not provide support for CentOS/AlmaLinux systems.

*For more information about which system to select for longevity click here

Virtualization

Most hypervisor-based virtualization technologies should be supported provided they do not alter the operating system or kernel. OpenVZ , LXC and similar containers are not supported because they are not the real versions of CentOS or Debian and provide custom kernels that cause problems.

Domain Name

A domain or sub-domain name is required if you wish to use HTTPS/SSL services.

Licensing

A Static IP address and connection through to https://www.mediacp.net:443 is required.

CloudFlare protects our website and licensing system. You can view a list of all IP addresses required at Cloudflare IP Ranges page.

Memory Usage

Minimum of 2 GB Memory is required.

Disk Space

MediaCP is installed in /usr/local/mediacp and we recommend 25GB disk minimum at this location.

There must be 4 GB free in /usr/local/ to install MediaCP.

Compatibility

It is recommended to run MediaCP on its own dedicated server. However, we do provide compatibility for cPanel, Plesk, CentOS Web Panel, DirectAdmin and standard Apache 2 or Nginx installations.

Network / Firewall

It is required that your server have the following ports available to operate the MediaCP:

  • Main web GUI – 2020
  • AutoSSL – 80
  • FTP server access – 2121, 50000 – 51000

Additional ports are required to run various media services:

  • Audio Services (Shoutcast 1/2 & Icecast) – 8000-9000, 10000-11000 (Icecast SSL/NON-SSL support)
  • AutoDJ Live Streaming Port – 6800-7000
  • Wowza Streaming Engine – TCP 554, 1935, 1936, 8084, 8086, 8089 & UDP 554
  • Flussonic Media Server – TCP 554, 1935, 3308, 8080, 8081
  • Nginx Free Video Server – TCP 19350, 19360

Recommended Hardware

The below recommendations are guidelines only and different usages of Audio and Video streaming use different amounts of resources.

Audio Streaming

Audio streaming itself is very lightweight and will not use many resources. AutoDJ functions perform transcoding of audio files and will use a greater amount of CPU power.

  • CPU Usage – SHOUTcast & Icecast use minimal CPU power however AutoDJ features may consume a larger amount of processing.
  • Memory – SHOUTcast/Icecast utilize approximately 20 MB per process. AutoDJ (Liquidsoap) can utilize approximately 215 MB per process. 30 Shoutcast services with AutoDJ would therefore require approximately 7 GB of memory. You should ensure 4 GB is available for the MySQL database server at minimum for Medium loads and 8 GB for larger loads.
  • Network – Network is entirely dependant on the number of listeners to the stations on the service. For example 100 listeners at 128 Kbps is 12.8Mbps, 1000 listeners is 128 Mbps etc.

Minimum

Recommended Requirements
10 services
5 AutoDJ
  • Disk: 25 GB
  • Disk: SATA
  • CPU: 1 CPU
  • RAM: 2 GB
  • Network: 100 Mbps

Small

Recommended Requirements
30 services
15 AutoDJ
  • Disk: 250 GB
  • Disk: SATA / RAID
  • CPU: 4 Core or better
  • RAM: 4 - 8 GB
  • Network: 250 Mbps

Medium

Recommended for Medium Load
50 services
30 AutoDJ
  • Disk: 1 TB
  • Disk: SSD
  • CPU: 8 Core or better
  • RAM: 12 - 16 GB

60 AutoDJ
  • Disk: 2 TB +
  • Disk: NVMe
  • CPU: 8 Core or better
  • RAM: 16 - 32 GB
  • Network: 1 Gbps+

Video Streaming

Live Streaming will use the least amount of resources. Ondemand streaming will require greater disk performance and SSD’s are recommended. TV Station services will consume CPU power.

Transcoding will consume a great amount of CPU power and we recommend you refer to our Transcoder on VPS Benchmark and Wowza’s Transcoder Benchmark
