AlmaLinux 8 hit end of full support in May 2024, we have committed to trying to maintain updates for an additional year after full support ends for AlmaLinux releases. We are coming up to May 2025 and will be dropping support for Almalinux 8 in May.
Almalinux releases boast a 5-year support active support period and 10-year security support. This is great for security, but it may mean that software used by the panel drops support for the operating system due to lack of active support/updates. This is starting to occur with recent issues affecting Liquidsoap support.
Do I need to take any actions?
Yes – You should upgrade your operating system before May 31st 2024 or you may have difficulty in the future using AlmaLinux 8 after we drop support.
Can MediaCP Support do this for me?
Yes – We can complete a Migration Service to migrate your MediaCP to a new server running CentOS Stream 9 or AlmaLinux 9 (or another supported O/S).
Migrating to a Fresh Installation.
We recommend completing a fresh install of CentOS Stream 9 or AlmaLinux 9 on a different server and migrating over for the best stability and experience. Migrating will avoid issues that can arise when upgrading and will allow for a fallback if you encounter issues after the move. We have a comprehensive guide for migration available as well as offer Migration Services if you would like our team to complete this for you.
Can I Upgrade from AlmaLinux 8?
The AlmaLinux team has the ELevate project which supports upgrading AlmaLinux 8 to AlmaLinux 9. However, we do not recommend this approach as it is not always a smooth process and can be challenging to recover if something goes wrong.
Can MediaCP Support Upgrade for me?
No – We will not upgrade your AlmaLinux 8 installation for you, due to the risk of data failure and or data loss. We can complete a Migration Service to migrate your MediaCP for you instead.
